Shruti Madhusudan is a veterinarian whose upbringing across diverse regions fostered an early interest in the ecological and sociocultural forces shaping the relationships between humans, animals and the environment. She completed a BSc (H) in Zoology at the University of Guelph, where she developed a keen interest in medicine and disease ecology while volunteering in wildlife laboratories, rehabilitation facilities, neonatal equine clinics, and veterinary emergency hospitals.
As an undergraduate, she studied bacterial diseases in coral reefs, the spatial distribution and comorbidity of viral and parasitic infections in raccoons, and parasite burden in muskox in collaboration with the University of Calgary. Dr. Madhusudan went on to earn a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Edinburgh, where she combined clinical training in wildlife health with her research interests.
She completed a rotating internship at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in Rhode Island and has been practicing emergency and general medicine in California after her internship. She is a lover of all species and is fascinated by the diversity of their physiological systems.
Broadly, Dr. Madhusudan is interested in optimizing quality of life for her patients and their caregivers to improve the wildlife health, people, and ecosystems. Her spare time is devoted to meandering in nature and creating art and music.
